Faster Site Loads via CloudFlare

cloudflareSo from now on this site should load A LOT faster thanks to CloudFlare. Like 60%+ faster and that’s just right now. I recently started using CloudFlare and I highly suggest them to anyone who runs a website. I also have been optimizing and changing some options around in the backend. If you noticed that I haven’t posted for a while it’s partly because of this. My server was compromised and some malicious code was injected into my sites. I had to backup and completely rebuild the site from scratch.

One positive of this is that I had the chance to remove some and install some things better than the first time. I have learned a lot since I originally put this site online and now you should benefit from it. Be on the lookout for another product launch coming soon as well as a lot more blog posts as I delve into the world or article marketing.

Take this as a short CloudFlare review and remember the best part, CloudFlare is free for a single site account!

Mind Mapping For High-Speed Brainstorming

If you aren’t familiar with mind mapping yet, perhaps it’s time to learn about it.

In short, mind mapping is a marvelous method of planning, thinking and discovering ideas, tasks, concepts, strategies and goals.

More specifically, mind mapping is a drawn diagram that you use to generate new ideas, structure your thoughts and the like. Taking a key concept placed in the middle, you diagram out words, ideas and tasks in a radiating circle. It really helps with the visualization process!

In a nutshell, it’s a way to utilize the right side of your brain (responsible for creativity) when planning stuff… and I’m talking about anything imaginable like Web sites, products, projects, services, to-do lists, concepts, . For some people (like me), it goes much faster than writing it down in lists, phrases or full sentences.

After doing some mind mapping, you will find that the big picture becomes much clearer to you, even down to the most minute detail. An additional use is that it’s good for a study aid, in working out organizational problems… or actually any issue.

It gives you freedom to think, not constricting you to any one method or linear way of planning. The freedom means, in my view, that you can come up with new and different ideas — ones that may not have come to you in any other way.

You simply write down a central idea. Then you think up other related ideas that radiate out from that center. As you put these additional thoughts down on paper, online or offline, I think you’ll find you will understand and remember all these points much better.

Another neat thing about mind mapping is that you can use your own personal symbols and designs to stand for whatever you want. Besides that, you can add colors, arrows and so on to your heart’s content. Get creative!

Offline, I personally like to use brown package paper of a decent size.

Online, I prefer professional software for my mind mapping endeavors… Mindjet’s MindManager.

Occasionally, though, I changed recently, however, as I found some really good free programs available.

To students I recommended (and still do) Freemind, an open source software. But I while ago I’ve found an online mind mapping application that’s really good — and from a German company! — called mindmeister.com. It’s free to sign up and create a handful of mind maps, and it has the standard features of the more sophisticated MindManager software you otherwise have to pay $$$ for.

As I said, this is really priceless for planning out Web sites, products, events… the list is endless! 🙂 You can brainstorm, strategize and plan in so much more dynamic ways.

This is good news for those of you who need that extra spark for your planning or brainstorming. And the Mindmeister Internet portal is excellent because you have your maps accessible anywhere in the world and can work on them whenever and wherever you want. (Plus, you can share them & collaborate with others.)

The Concepts of Mentoring, Coaching, and Directing

mentoringMentoring, in my opinion, is the strongest form of guidance and team building around. However, it may not be for everyone so I am going to discuss a few different leadership styles. Being a guide for someone is definitely not an easy task. You have to be experienced enough to be able to share knowledge and wisdom, and, you need to be able to know how to share your knowledge and wisdom well enough in order to be understood. You also have to know how to approach people, how to empower and encourage them, and how to make them feel better about themselves without babying them.

There are many different ways that you can be a guide, and it all depends on what you aim to do, as well as on how much control you are willing to exert. There are three main paths that you may want to take as the guide, and you can do this through mentoring, coaching, or directing. Although these three types of guidance are often mixed together or interchanged in both conversation and media, there are actually subtle differences amongst them that you need to understand.

In mentoring, you are dealing with a relationship between a mentor (you), who is more experienced, knowledgeable, and wise; and a protégé, who is less experienced, probably (but not always) younger, and sometimes flighty and uncertain. A mentor will often be more prominent than the protégé, or more skilled in a particular field. The mentor is then the teacher of the protégé, and serves as the guide for the protégé to do better in the field. Most often, a mentor will teach by example on the job itself: for instance, a mentor opera singer will have a protégé who the opera singer will take on while the opera singer is at the peak of his or her career, and while the protégé is just starting out. By emulating the opera singer, the protégé will hopefully succeed one day as well. This is the basis of mentoring.

On the other hand, coaching refers to a guidance process in which a person, acting as a leader, oversees a group of persons, or sometimes even a single person, with the aim of achieving a goal. Coaching differs from mentoring in that a coach will often be out of or done with his or her career already, and will therefore be teaching a younger generation based on their experiences. Another difference between coaching and mentoring is that coaching often has only a single goal in mind, while mentoring might be more abstract and widespread in its aims.

Coaching is most popularly seen in sports teams, where a person who has once been a good player is now helping other players to succeed in their game, and with the aim of as many victories as possible for the team. Another popular coaching technique is that of life coaching. In this case, a person is already successful enough and is probably ready for retirement, but is coaching other people in making their lives start to work. In a variant of life coaching, a person who has already faced all of his or her fears can also coach persons who are still living in fear, helping them to get over their anxieties and emerge as better people.

Lastly, the process of directing involves the instruction of a higher person to that of a lower person. In the mentoring relationship, the mentor acts as a guide, not as someone who makes orders; a guide will steer a student through to the right path, but not point it out directly. In the coach and team relationship, the coach acts as an encouraging person, and even as a trainer, but not as someone who directly tells the team what to do. In directing, a boss-employee relationship would be closer in definition, especially when the higher person is ordering the lower person on how exactly to live his or her life.

What are you reading?

readingReading is a fundamental key in building business. As none of us are born experts we must learn from others. If you are not reading at least one business book a month you are shortchanging yourself and your success. There is a reason that every successful businessman and woman recommend the same books. They not only are great sources of knowledge but also inspire and embed certain mindset traits into their readers when read properly and understood.

With technological advances reading is easier than ever. Snag a Kindle for $79 USD and one can start reading without carrying with them more than what a cup of coffee weighs. If you don not want to buy an e-reader such as the Kindle you get get the app for free on your phone and computer and read that way. I do most of my reading through the free app on my phone as my phone has such a large screen.

Take this passage from Think and Grow Rich (which I’m currently reading) by Napolean Hill:

“Every human being who reaches the age of understanding of the purpose of money, wishes for it. Wishing will not bring riches. But desiring riches with a state of mind that becomes an obsession, then planning definite ways and means to acquire riches, and backing those plans with persistence which does not recognize failure, will bring riches.

The method by which DESIRE for riches can be transmuted into its financial equivalent, consists of six definite, practical steps, viz:

First. Fix in your mind the exact amount of money you desire. It is not sufficient merely to say “I want plenty of money.” Be definite as to the amount. (There is a psychological reason for definiteness which will be described in a subsequent chapter).

Second. Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for the money you desire. (There is no such reality as “something for nothing.)

Third. Establish a definite date when you intend to possess the money you desire.

Fourth. Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire, and begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action.

Fifth. Write out a clear, concise statement of the of money you intend to acquire, name the time limit for its acquisition, state what you intend to give in return for the money, and describe clearly the plan through which you intend to accumulate it.

Sixth. Read your written statement aloud, twice daily, once just before retiring at night, and once after arising in the morning. AS YOU READ—SEE AND FEEL AND BELIEVE YOURSELF ALREADY IN POSSESSION OF THE MONEY.”

This definitely is aimed at those looking for financial success but at the core of it is all about a mindset. This mindset is developed through READING and SPEAKING the written statement that you write. This in turn burns it into your core being and in time turns you into the person who will achieve the goal set. If your mentors have not provided you with at least six books that they recommend reading then I say they are not really your mentors. They are just mere figureheads looking to make money off of you and not with you.

I want to recommend a few books to add to your reading list. If you have already read them let me know in the comments what you thought about them. If you have not read them yet, do. I guarantee reading these books will add to your life and your business successes. I’m providing direct links to Amazon Kindle Editions for purchase of these books so you can start reading them immediately. Do not put off til tomorrow what you can do today.

I have also found that a subscription to Success magazine is invaluable. I have multiple magazine subscriptions but there is only one that I am reading consistently and that is Success. They also provide a digital edition for reading on your computer, iPad or iPhone for under $20 per year here.

So now get to reading. If there is something you have read or are reading now that you think I should add to this list let me know in the comments. I look forward to reading your comments and suggestions.
