The Concepts of Mentoring, Coaching, and Directing

mentoringMentoring, in my opinion, is the strongest form of guidance and team building around. However, it may not be for everyone so I am going to discuss a few different leadership styles. Being a guide for someone is definitely not an easy task. You have to be experienced enough to be able to share knowledge and wisdom, and, you need to be able to know how to share your knowledge and wisdom well enough in order to be understood. You also have to know how to approach people, how to empower and encourage them, and how to make them feel better about themselves without babying them.

There are many different ways that you can be a guide, and it all depends on what you aim to do, as well as on how much control you are willing to exert. There are three main paths that you may want to take as the guide, and you can do this through mentoring, coaching, or directing. Although these three types of guidance are often mixed together or interchanged in both conversation and media, there are actually subtle differences amongst them that you need to understand.

In mentoring, you are dealing with a relationship between a mentor (you), who is more experienced, knowledgeable, and wise; and a protégé, who is less experienced, probably (but not always) younger, and sometimes flighty and uncertain. A mentor will often be more prominent than the protégé, or more skilled in a particular field. The mentor is then the teacher of the protégé, and serves as the guide for the protégé to do better in the field. Most often, a mentor will teach by example on the job itself: for instance, a mentor opera singer will have a protégé who the opera singer will take on while the opera singer is at the peak of his or her career, and while the protégé is just starting out. By emulating the opera singer, the protégé will hopefully succeed one day as well. This is the basis of mentoring.

On the other hand, coaching refers to a guidance process in which a person, acting as a leader, oversees a group of persons, or sometimes even a single person, with the aim of achieving a goal. Coaching differs from mentoring in that a coach will often be out of or done with his or her career already, and will therefore be teaching a younger generation based on their experiences. Another difference between coaching and mentoring is that coaching often has only a single goal in mind, while mentoring might be more abstract and widespread in its aims.

Coaching is most popularly seen in sports teams, where a person who has once been a good player is now helping other players to succeed in their game, and with the aim of as many victories as possible for the team. Another popular coaching technique is that of life coaching. In this case, a person is already successful enough and is probably ready for retirement, but is coaching other people in making their lives start to work. In a variant of life coaching, a person who has already faced all of his or her fears can also coach persons who are still living in fear, helping them to get over their anxieties and emerge as better people.

Lastly, the process of directing involves the instruction of a higher person to that of a lower person. In the mentoring relationship, the mentor acts as a guide, not as someone who makes orders; a guide will steer a student through to the right path, but not point it out directly. In the coach and team relationship, the coach acts as an encouraging person, and even as a trainer, but not as someone who directly tells the team what to do. In directing, a boss-employee relationship would be closer in definition, especially when the higher person is ordering the lower person on how exactly to live his or her life.

Basically what the theory stands for is the fact that if you can see yourself as it, then you can be it. It means that you are clearly in control of your own destiny and it is all about what you give to world as to what the world gives you in return. You will find that there are four basic steps to the law of attraction.

First, you have to decide what it is that your heart desires and then ask the universe (or yourself). Secondly, you need to work on yourself from the inside out so that you can be a positive person and release your negative energy, positivity breeds attraction. Then you have to act like you deserve it and like you already have what it is that your heart desires. You will find that the final step will come natural and it is where you will need to allow yourself to be open to receive it. That is the basics of the law of attraction; however, you need to figure out how you can apply it in the work environment.

The thing is that you can use the law of attraction to do anything. You can use it as a way for you to find your way at work, get a promotion, connect with your co-workers, market your business, and so on. You can use attraction for any aspect of your career or life. However, you need to keep in mind that the energy that you have and the energy that you receive has to be positive. You can’t allow some of the negativity to get to you and you can’t allow yourself to be blackballed. You will need to learn to find your comfortable medium at work.

You will also notice that the law of attraction can also help motivate you to reach your personal career goals. You will notice that the third step means that you need to take control of your career direction and act like you have already achieved your goals. This will give you a taste of what it would be like if you were successful in meeting your goals, and that will work as strong motivation. You will find that it will also help you to block the negative energy too. This will not only make you have a stronger presence at work, but it will make your personality stronger in general. You will have encouragement, empowerment, and even freedom from all the negative feelings and thoughts that you may have about yourself. You will possess all the attributes to cause attraction to you.

In general, you will find that the law of attraction will help you to become a better person. You will also find that it will make you feel completely different. For instance, you may feel a little bit stronger when you walk into a silenced room and you will also get other people to notice you more (that is the attraction working). You will become a strong presence and that will make a difference in the way that your boss perceives you. You will want to keep in mind that there are a lot of ways that you can benefit from trying to use the theory in other aspects of your life and not just in your career. People who live their life by the theory tend to grow stronger, but they also tend to find their true happiness.

Is It Time To Shift Your Mentality?

mentalityIf you continue to run the rat race and have been doing the same things over and over to just get the same depressing results — is it not time to rewire your mentality? There is a basic change in how people think when they make the turn from a negative to positive mentality. Have you made that change yet?

On a daily basis people are contacting me looking for help with making their business successful. They have a great product, a passion for what they do, yet can not seem to make things move forward no matter what they do. A lot of these people have also put themselves into a great amount of debt and in doing such created a state of misery in their life. They have decided that the network marketing industry does not work. That internet marketing is impossible. That the only thing left to do is give up and be stuck in a cubicle for the rest of their life making someone else rich while they do basic tasks over and over again. This is the mentality that they are living with.

Like all things in life if what you are doing over and over and over again to try and achieve a goal is not working then there is only one solution, STOP! Now is the time to shift your mentality. It is 100% possible to do and I have to force myself to do it almost daily. Eventually, the shift will be permanent and the conscious effort for a mentality change will have transformed you into who you want to be.

Think about your business tactics carefully. Think about your overall business mentality when it comes to what you have done and the results you have achieved. What worked last month in your marketing tactics has changed by this month (sometimes it takes longer but things ALWAYS change). There are limited resources and as we learn to use them effectively we are essentially watering down the value of those resources and must continue to learn new ways to do the same things.

So stop what you are doing right now. It’s Friday. Take the weekend off from your business. We got into this business to be time and money free right? Not to be bound and tied down by what we do. Relax and recharge. Only do the things that make you happy. Start refreshing your mentality. If you have been failing I guarantee you it is NOT your fault if you are truly trying your hardest. Take the time to realize this and start fresh on Monday. Shift your mentality to the positive.

Go ahead and turn off your computer for the weekend. Turn off e-mail notifications on your smart phone. Disconnect. We all need it from time to time. Life is not about work. Remember that. Ingrain that into your mentality. That you are living and working to have a life of experiences and memories.

I firmly believe that if you are not personally motivated to succeed you never will. However, motivation comes from many sources. Some people are motivated by money. Some people are motivated by notoriety and being known as successful. Some people are motivated by necessity, it’s do or die almost literally. Some people are motivated just because people have told them they can’t do it. Then there are some people motivated by knowing they can help people. These are the people who are successful in network marketing businesses.


Because those who want to help people are the leaders. Yes along the way a lot can be achieved. However, in the end what makes a truly successful network marketer is helping others replicate what you have done in your business. Making others successful makes you successful. Your own success and leadership is what motivates your team to follow you. They will follow you when you make product recommendations, follow you when you join a new business, and follow you to success. You wil motivate your team to in turn motivate their team. You will turn your team into leaders and they will turn their teams into leaders. We all know replication is key in this business and replicating leaders is even more key! As long as you have a driving force in side you to do this you will make it.

I met a guy yesterday who absolutely loved his business.

That wasn’t the problem.

Here’s where this gentleman went wrong…

The first thing that came out of his mouth on our initial handshake was, “Hello, my name is Frank. How would you like to own your own business? I’ve got this amazing opportunity with this amazing product and the company is in pre-launch. Get in now and you’ll be set for life!”


Honestly… Do you think Frank has a good shot at establishing any type of relationship or any chance at sponsoring distributors using this opening line???

Of course not! Its ludicrous to think that this could ever work.
